Markant Trading Organisation (Far East) Ltd. (hereafter referred to as MTO) has been established in Hong Kong in 1988 as a buying office for the Markant Handels & Service GmbH and Zentrale Handelsgesellschaft ZHG mbH as well as other Markant Members.
 The objective of the Markant Group is to ensure the independence and future of medium-sized trade businesses in Germany and Europe. The Markant Group is consolidating the market power of independent whole-sale and retail businesses as to maximize commercial advantages for all involved trading partners. The emphasis thereby lies in the areas of procurement, centralized settlements, guaranty, logistics, marketing, communications, financial services as well as e-commerce using the internet-platform www.markant.net. The Markant Members are mainly food retailers. MTO provides procurement-related services with a focus on non-food articles. Services provided are tailored to our partner’s needs. Most of our partners are retailers in Europe (in particular in Germany) but we also have a business partner in the USA. Apart from our main office in Hong Kong with currently 51 permanent staff, we additionally have a strategic partner office in Bangkok, Thailand. The total turnover of MTO in the year 2009 has been approximately 255 million Euro. Our product groups cover roughly 3/4 hardgoods and 1/4 textiles/shoes & bags. MTO's core competency in hardgoods lies with Household items. Toys, Stationery, DIY and Lighting articles are also handled by our teams. In 2006 MTO expanded its activities further into the electrical and electronic product groups. With the integration of AERA Rundfunk- und Fernseh GmbH into the Markant Group, AERA established a representative office within the MTO premises with currently 9 staff. The product range of AERA comprises various electrical household appliances as well as consumer electronics and Hi-Fi products. Besides the traditional merchandising services, MTO is also providing exclusive financial handling of orders. Markant Members are placing their orders directly and independently to vendors and MTO is taking over the currency hedging, payment and financing tasks for them. MTO, Zentrale Handelsgesellschaft ZHG mbH and AERA Rundfunk- und Fernseh GmbH (and others) are all 100% subsidiaries of Markant Handels und Service GmbH Germany and Markant AG, Switzerland respectively. |
